February 2007 — eCornell has partnered with Cornell University's
School of Hotel Administration to create a five- course certificate
series on the strategies and techniques of hotel revenue management.
The courses, authored by School Professor Sheryl E. Kimes, are
designed to develop essential revenue maximizing skills for revenue
management professionals and other hotel managers with revenue
responsibilities. The five courses are adapted from Dr. Kimes'
courses delivered in the Hotel School's Professional Development
Program in Ithaca, Brussels, and Singapore.
This certificate provides a holistic view of the application of
revenue management concepts and practices to the hospitality
industry. The courses focus on several high-impact drivers for
maximizing revenue: forecasting and availability controls, pricing
and distribution channel management, overbooking and group
management, and non-traditional revenue management applications. Each
course explores a topic in depth, with particular emphasis on the
role of strategy in effective revenue management and the practical
application of tools and techniques in the hospitality setting.
Executives from several leading hospitality brands advised eCornell's
instructional designers on the content and format of the program.
Each course is designed to be both a part of the certificate program
and a stand-alone learning experience. The courses in the series are:
An Introduction to Revenue Management; Forecasting and Availability
Controls; Pricing and Distribution Channel Management; Overbooking
Practices and Group Management; and Non-Traditional Applications of
Hotel Revenue Management.
Registrations are being accepted now for all courses. Instruction in
this new certificate program begins in April, 2007. All courses are
delivered online using eCornell's proprietary Structured Flexibility™
delivery methodology. Each course requires about six hours of
learning time over a two- week period and is facilitated by an expert
instructor in revenue management to ensure knowledge transfer and
application back into the workplace. Each course will provide
interactive and hands-on tools that will enable managers to readily
apply new strategies and techniques.
