Continuing Education Units (CEU)

CEUs ensure professionals are up-to-date on the latest practices and skills in their profession.

What is a CEU?

CEU is an acronym for Continuing Education Unit. It is a nationally recognized method of quantifying the time spent in the classroom during professional development and training activities. The purpose of issuing CEUs is to provide a permanent record of training and continuing education for individuals who need to submit proof of their continuing education to employers, associations for recertification of professional licenses and certifications, state licensing boards, etc.  The CEU is not transferrable to college credit. One CEU is equivalent to 10 hours (1 hour = 60 minutes) and each 2-week eCornell course earns 0.6 hrs.

All eCornell courses are eligible for CEUs from the School of Continuing Education at Cornell University.  Courses with the prefix, ILR, receive CEUs from the School of Industrial and Labor Relations at Cornell University.

Upon successful completion of each course, instructions for applying for CEUs are included in the student's official Letter of Completion, which also includes the number of  CEUs they have earned. Students are asked to contact the eCornell Helpdesk at helpdesk@ecornell.com for an official CEU verification letter. Please note that a processing fee may apply.
