Florence Berger, Ph.D.

Dr. Florence Berger is a professor emeritus of Organizational Management, Communication, and Law at the Cornell University School of Hotel Administration, where she taught courses in human resources management, human relations skills, hospitality industry training, creative management, and organizational development. She has a Bachelor's degree from Goucher College, a Master's degree from Harvard University, and a Ph.D. from Cornell University. She has been a research associate at Harvard University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Assistant Dean and Associate Dean of Students at Cornell University. Professor Berger is a management consultant in human resources, training, and organizational development; her clients include Marriott, Four Seasons Hotels, Hilton International, Loews Hotels, ARAMARK, Club Med, and Bronx-Lebanon Hospital. She has lectured in the United States, Europe, the Middle East, Asia, and Australia on team building, creative management, human relations skills, and organizational change. Professor Berger has taught in a number of Hotel School Executive Education Programs. She was faculty coordinator for the Club Managers Association of America Business Management Institutes 4 and 5. Professor Berger has authored many articles in Lodging Hospitality, International Journal of Hospitality Management, Cornell Hotel and Restaurant Administration Quarterly, Briefings, and Hospitality Research Journal. She has also written three management books for the hospitality industry: Prentice-Hall published Organizational Behavior for the Hospitality Industry (co-authored with Judi Brownell), INNovation: Creativity Techniques for Hospitality Managers (with Dennis Ferguson), and The On-Track Trainer: A Training Handbook for Hospitality Managers (with Bonnie Farber). She developed, with Ed Merritt, the CMAA On-Line Team Building Course. Dr. Berger was selected Teacher of the Year for 1996 and 1998 by the freshman and sophomore classes of the Hotel School. In 1999, Dr. Berger received the Stephen H. Weiss Presidential Fellow Award for Distinguished Teaching. Since becoming professor emeritus on July 1, 2004, Professor Berger has focused on executive education and the development of online courses for hospitality managers.
