Software Quality Assurance Engineer

The Software QA Engineer is the quality advocate of our Software Development team. Job Description

The Software QA Engineer works with eCornell’s business analysts, software developers, and business stakeholders to design and develop software test plans and perform tests. The Software QA Engineer also works with the support team and end-users to identify and research customer and internally reported software problems.

Responsibilities

The eCornell Software QA Engineer will manage the following responsibilities (other duties may be assigned):

  • Create detailed, comprehensive and well-structured test plans and test cases
  • Execute test plans and test cases, identifying, recording, and documenting defects
  • Identify and research customer and internally reported software problems
  • Communicate clearly with stakeholders regarding status of bugs, defects, and other technical issues
  • Contribute to technical support documentation used by internal stakeholders and customers
  • Review requirements, specifications and technical design documents to provide timely and meaningful feedback
  • Perform thorough regression testing when bugs are resolved and prior to planned release dates
  • Develop and apply testing processes for new and existing products to meet stakeholder needs
  • Investigate the causes of non-conforming software and train users to implement solutions
  • Stay up-to-date with new testing tools and test strategies

Required Qualifications:

  • Work experience in a fast-paced web-based software development environment
  • Work experience in software quality assurance
  • Strong knowledge of software QA methodologies, tools and processes
  • Experience in writing clear, concise and comprehensive test plans and test cases
  • Experience working in an Agile/Scrum development process
  • Strong technical aptitude
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Collaborative approach, customer-focus

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Located in Ithaca, NY or Western/Central NY
  • B.S. in Computer Science, Engineering or related subject
  • 2-4 years experience in a fast-paced, high-tech environment
  • Experience with performance and/or security testing
